About

K.J.Hospital was started on 24th September 1969 by Dr.K.Jagadeesan as multispeciality corporate hospital with emphasis on patient care and use of latest technology in medicine for better management. On his return after FRCS from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow, UK and working in the Prince of Wales Hospital, London and the Department of Gastroenterology Western General Hospital, Glasgow and postgraduate training from the USA, Japan and Germany, in 1965 he worked as Honorary Asst. Prof. of Surgery in govt. Stanley Medical College and Hospital for 4 years. During this period he found deficiencies in healthcare delivery especially when compared with the western hemisphere. Armed with a determination to set up a hospital matching any in the western world, he started K.J.Hospital. from that part on he pioneered in bringing latest technology in medicine either for the first time in India or in the private set up - Hemodialysis and Transplant, nuclear medicine, ICU Blood Bank, ECG Telemetry, Ambulance radio phone, mobile CCU, Cath lab, CT Scanner, Lithotripsy and PG training, Research etc. The recognition of the above pioneering efforts he was conferred the BC Roy award for the concept of corporate hospital and technology up gradation. K.J.Hospital started life on a 22 bed hospital with limited resources and now is 100 bedded multispeciality hospital in the heart of the city. K.J.Hospital also started a free rural health centre at Sembiam in 1978 where patients were treated free of cost. K.J. Research Foundation was set up in 1983 has trained numerous candidates for DNB, FRCS, PhD and various paramedical courses Lab, Radiology and Nursing. KJH has been steadily moving towards providing its patients comprehensive health care and all the departments which includes Trauma and emergency care, General Surgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Dental, E.N.T, Ophthalmology, Urology and Nephrology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Department of Physical Medicine, Radiology and Imaging Department, Nuclear Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine , specialty clinics etc. Former President of India Dr.S.Radhakrishnan was one of the celebrities of the country who was hospitalized at Chennai. He spent his last days, nearly an year at K.J.Hospital. The hospital also has the honor of entertaining the angel of the poor, Mother Theresa and leaving blessed by her for the free treatment being provided to the poor by the hospital. Shri. Amitabh Bachchan visited the hospital twice as mark of gratitude for the help rendered by us when he was traumatized and hospitalized during the shooting of a movie. K.J. Hospital blazed a trail in the field of surgery with cutting edge technologies and high-tech diagnostic tools. It was at K.J. Hospital in India and neighboring countries that the first whole body C.T. Scan was set up. The hospital has full-fledged eye department equipped with state of the art instruments for investigation and treatment of a whole range of eye diseases K.J. Research Foundation (KJRF) is the research wing of K.J. Hospital which is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration act 1975 for Medical Research Activities. Our research findings have been published/presented periodically in various National /International Journals/ Conferences
