Dr Abhijit Chowdhury is a highly reputed and veteran Gastroenterologist practicing in Kolkata. His post doctoral training in Gastroenterology (DM) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh India in 1992-93. He got his post graduate (MD) training from the same Institute after having received my graduate degree from North Bengal Medical College. Susrutnagar, Darjeeling.He had received a brief training in molecular microbiology methods at Washington University school of Medicine, St. Louis, USA in 2000. His primary research focus is in population health. As a hepatologist, this translates into studies in epidemiology and burden of liver diseases in India. This include the differential aspects of the dynamics of the emerging liver disease scenario in this country including population based molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B and C in India, characteristics of NAFLD in our population, development of a longitudinal cohort for outcome studies in liver disease focussing ion metabolic syndrome. In addition, He is involved in a study on Genetics of lean NASH an entity which we have described in 2010 as a possible third world NASH phenotype. He is the in the board of executives of Biomedical Genomics Centre, Kolkata and Project Director of Birbhum Population Project. He is nvolved in planning and directing hepatology clinical services at SDLD
