He has a special interest in Medical Oncology/Hematology and the medical interactions with other clinical branches and basic sciences. He is very interested in the field of developmental therapeutics and clinical research. This has integrated projects involving all the branches of clinical oncology as well as basic research. He also has an interest in biological therapeutics targeting various molecular targets on the cancer cells. He has been pioneer in establishing Bone Marrow Transplantation in India. He is the recipient of the PADMASHRI and PADMABHUSHAN awards from the Government of India and the Dhanvantari Award for outstanding contributions to Medicine, Lifetime Achievement in Oncology in 2005.
